Questionable business practices

on VIP Taxi Service
|
On Friday November 28th, at 4PM I called in VIP Taxi Service to get a cab ride form the Bordentown NJ train station to my home on 12 Ginger Rd Chesterfield, NJ, 8 miles away from the train station. I told the dispatcher that I needed to go to 12 Ginger rd, in Chesterfield, and I elaborated to say it is approximately a 12 minute ride. The dispatcher was quick to point out that they charge a flat fee of $25 for such a ride. I compared this fee with the $18 I used to be charged from the Princeton train station to my old home in East Windsor, and I found this to be higher but in the normal range of acceptable pricing. I accepted. The dispatcher said it would take 20 minutes for the taxi to arrive. The red and white cab arrived 30 minutes later (4:30PM).
Upon entering the cab I told the driver that he should follow route 528 until it turned right in the direction of New Egypt, and that my house would only be a couple of minutes further. He started driving and made comments that made it obvious that he was not familiar with the area (e.g. he "told" me that I lived in western Chesterfield... Chesterfield has barely 26 square miles, so there is no west or east). After route 528 turned right towards New Egypt I told him to turn left in the next street and then left in the first street after that. He kept trying to turn left onto all the driveways, and forced me to point out to him that I meant street and not driveway. He was clearly completely confused.
When we arrived to my house I gave him two $20 bills for him to give me change for the $25 taxi fee agreed with the dispatcher. He said that ride had been too long and therefore he was going to charge me $35. I told him that it was not fair that I had agreed one price with the dispatcher, who knew exactly where I was going, and then have him increase the price by 50% on his own, once the service was rendered. He then said that I lived in Allentown (since his GPS indicated so, whcih is merely a result of him having an outdated system, which had the old zip codes from when Chesterfield didn't even have its own post office) and this is why he was charging me more. I found his excuse unfounded and told him so, but he insisted. Since I was alone in the house I decided not to risk a stronger confrontation and left it there.
The reason for my complaint is to alert other potential customers of the poor business practices of this taxi service, so they are not faced with the abuse I faced.

NO REFUND

on Top Town Private Car & Airport

We had Top Town reserved to take 3 couples out to NYC for a 50th birthday. When the car arrived at the house the 6 year old daughter of the "birthday girl" came running out and while doing so was hit by a passing car. The police, EMT and ambulance came to the scene and we all spent the next day and a half in the hospital and with her. Needless to say we didn't go out partying.
The service said they would refund all of the $650.00 for the service because of what happened. Instead, at the end of the month we were charged for the full amount and told that we would have to accept a rain check instead of a refund. I offered 20% to them reflecting the non refundable deposit but they still refused to refund any money. I find this particularly heartless and would certainly never use them. I have no immediate need for a limo and can't see it as fair to leave them with 650.00 for something I have no regular use for.

Limousines have evolved past the typical stretch limo type of transportation. Now there are many exotic options such as Cadillac, Escalade, Excursion, Hummer, and Rolls Royce limousines. For extra large groups some services even offer a limo bus! Typical limo rental events include airport, wedding, bachelor party, bachelorette party, prom, and corporate events.
